Dr. Jeff,
Hi I’m new to this site and lifestyle change, but was wondering if there’s another blender/smoothie maker other than Vitamix that does the same things but is more affordable? I heard Jack Lalanne’s juicer is good but am not sure if there’s a difference between a blender, juicer and smoothie-maker? I don’t want to waste my money on something just to find out it isn’t what I need. What’s the difference between these products and which ones do I need for my daily use?
I’ve also heard about Dr. Andrea making her own bread. Can I purchase just any bread maker or should there be a certain kind?
One more thing is are their any cookbooks or breadmaking books or smoothie making books you recommend for me to use or should I take a class with Dr. Andrea (which I think would be impossible since I live in Ohio)? I would love to know if she has recipes or something available?
Thanks and sorry for so many questions!
God Bless, Gabrielle

Gabrielle,
Hi there. Welcome to WellWithU. Congratulations on your new life.
OK, some answers for you:
1. A blender just mixes/pulverizes all the ingredients you add to it (so if you add fruit you would make a fruit smoothie). It’s not a separate machine. A juicer separates the juice from the pulp and is not the same a blender. If you only buy one thing, it should be a good blender as you will find using it much more diverse and more often. There is no better one than the Vitamix; all others break too quickly for my use. (I used to ruin one or two per year). My Vitamix is more than 10 years old and works perfectly to this day and I use it (between wife and 3 sons) about 1000 times per year.
2. As for bread, we do not use a bread machine. Bread is easy enough to make by hand. You would need a mill to turn the whole grain into flour (for the best bread). But you could also buy whole grain flour and make it with that and then no machines are needed. We always use freshly milled flour as it is most nutritious. If you need a mill I can order one for you, however the Vitamix with the added dry canister will also mill flour. So one machine will do it all!
3. As for recipes, for smoothies, make it up! Have fun; try different things and don’t be afraid. It’s the best way to learn. As for bread, we will be doing classes online soon to teach cooking and bread making is on the list, stay tuned.
That it may go well with you,
Dr. Jeff
