A “Lessons for Healthy Living” Tip

Do you tend to believe things “They” say, simply because it sounds reasonable? We’re all guilty of this to some extent, huh? And who has the time to research all this stuff, anyway?    

But what about the times you’ve learned something new and say to yourself, “Gee, my whole life I believed the exact opposite. I’ve really been making important decisions based on totally backwards thinking!

Here are a few statements to ponder: “Eat to keep up your strength when you’re sick” and “Breakfast is the most important meal of the day.”   True or false….and why?

    Due to medical reasons, I am not able to fast as I must take certain medications for bipolar disorder. If I don’t eat something with them, I get sick to my stomach. So I take supplements like Multivitans, Fish oil, Vitamin D, calcium and enzymes. These supplements were recommended by a psychiatrist who also has experience in naturopathy. Of course, when I am sick, obviously don’t eat so I drink a lot of fluids. But regular fasting no.

    In regard to your comments about fasting…I have fasted several days and know that it did me good. My husband, due to some health issues, many times has fasted for a week, a couple of times for two weeks, and once for three weeks, and once for 28 days. He was checked by his physician and was not found to have injured his health or body in any way. That should put to rest the fears people have about “starving” if they don’t eat for a few days. AND my husband was not overweight when he began his fast. It would take a long time to discuss the reasons for his fast, but he is now 71 – and still chooses to fast several days at a time just because he likes to be in control of his eating habits.

    Ummm…we aren’t animals. I’m not disagreeing with the premise that we should fast when we are sick. I see the wisdom of that but please don’t call us animals. I’m made in the image of God.
    I believe you know that…just a slip of the tongue.

      Hi Diane,

      I understand what you are saying, but from a physiological standpoint, which is the context of my statement, we are not vegetables or mold spores, we are mammals, and so we are animals in that regard. That is what I’m talking about when I compare typical human behavior to the natural habits of other mammals.

      The “image” of GOD in which we are made is the special soul our Creator puts only in humans, don’t you agree? I don’t think anyone believes that He actually looks like us physically, except when he chooses to take on human form. And…isn’t overcoming our dark “animalistic” nature part of the whole sanctification process. ;-)

      Of course, I am not calling humans “animals” the way a new age evolutionist would, but from a physical standpoint we are mammalian animals, and so when all other mammals fast when they are sick, but we tell each other to “eat to keep up your strength” when we are unwell, it seems to go against how we are wonderfully made. That is my point.
